We've tried a lot of times calling and send an email asking about any procedures that we might need to know upon our return trip, but unfortunately there was no response either at all. then came the horrific day of our return trip to US. after an hour and a half being in the long line, we are surprised when one of the airline staff announce that we need to prepare all documents needed including ANTIGEN TEST. This was the start of our horrific experience on that day. Were told different information from other sources, but heard nothing from JAL, as mentioned earlier that we tried calling them to ask for any info for our flight. Long story short as a result of this horrific misfortune caused by this airline, aside from the unexpected huge expenses that we incurred, as of this moment this problem is not yet resolve as we called them letting them of the situation happened to us in our recent Manila trip going to Seattle May 31, 2022.

Voordelen: "Crew service was amazing - so diligent and courteous. They were incredibly well trained and I would rate their service level as being one of the most competitive within business class in Asia."
Nadelen: "Seats were reasonably comfortable but not as spacious in design as in other business class cabins, so that could be a concern for some travelers. Also, I was not able to convert the main menu of the entertainment system to my preferred language so it was a bit difficult to navigate (that being said, they provided a card that guided me, so it was still usable, and the entertainment selection was good!)."
Voordelen: "Was able to get home toward Los Angeles with delays and change in plane so did not get proper seating as reserved."
Nadelen: "The plane was delayed from Tokyo to Los Angeles due to a pilot staffing issue. The plane stopped in Honolulu at 6:00AM in the morning and no staff was able to assist so they made everyone go through the run-around to have the luggage scanned for agriculture. Then they stated that even though we had pre-check, we did not qualify and the boarding pass was not issued with Honolulu to LAX. Over 5 hours delay and did not know that we could have stayed in Hawaii free room and meals. Terrible and one of the worst vacations ever for returning to the US. The food was not great."

Nadelen: "The cabin was so hot it felt like there was no air conditioning. Please turn up the air conditioning (make it colder). Passengers feeling cold can use a blanket to stay warm. Passengers feeling warm have no solution. I was wearing just a T-shirt and was feeling so warm. Thank you"

Nadelen: "No direction for the connecting flight and no help to understand the connecting flights."
Voordelen: "The coach seats were larger than seats for domestic flights. The windows were dimmable for optimal lighting."

Nadelen: "In LA terminal, instead of the gate number the airport labeled my flight as “TBIT.” Not being local, I had no way of knowing it meant Tom Bradley International Terminal. I stayed near another gait that had international flights, and it turned out the gate was clear on the other side of the complex, which is obscured by construction. If I hadn’t asked one of the workers there I would have missed my flight."

Voordelen: "The staff helping to check in was amazing. There was an error which checking in at LAX, we didn’t have our seats assigned. Ali was able to get us seats together, and by a window at that! She was incredible and super helpful. I knew it would be a great flight just from her service at the beginning."
Nadelen: "I wish there was a paper that showed you options for food/drinks. The language barrier was a bit difficult at times but the crew was incredibly patience and made sure we got what we asked for."

Voordelen: "Sitting in the Economy section, I was lucky to get the two seats next to me empty so i was able to stretch and sleep. Before the flight landed, the head flight attendant came to greet every passenger and personally thanked them for choosing JAL. I've flown on JAL several times and thus had never happened so I was pleasantly surprised."
Nadelen: "Economy Class seats are uncomfortable for long haul. Wish they could do something about it. Some of us dislike rice crackers and peanuts as welcome snacks so a different option could be nice."
Voordelen: "The small touches - the hot soup in the middle of the flight was nice and comforting, the crew were exemplary in their hospitality, the seat was easily the most comfortable Economy Class seat I've sat on."

Totally different experience from American carriers like United who treat you like cattle. I hope I can fly with JAL again soon. They are incredible. I was super satisfied."
Voordelen: "Absolutely loved the flight. The flight staff was among the best I have flown with. In terms of service I could not have asked for any better. The seats were super comfortable with a great entertainment system/large screen. The layout essentially gave you a nearly private suite. The doos service was impeccable. The lavatories spotless, along with those cool Japanese bidets...first one I've seen on a plane. Overall, I loved the experience."
Nadelen: "Remarkably the one issue on this wonderful business class seat was a limited area of storage for small items, most significantly a lack of a pocket for a cell phone by the USB port. Also the armrest didn't rise when the seat was in upright mode."
Voordelen: "The aircraft was clean and boarding went smoothly. The flight was late but the staff seemed courteous, polite, and apologetic for the delay."
Nadelen: "I thought I had ordered a vegetarian meal when I booked the flight roughly 1.5 months prior to my trip. However, when the meal was being served, there was only a chicken or pork option and my vegetarian meal had either not been properly booked or had been forgotten. When I informed the staff, I was asked to show proof that I ordered a veggie meal. I could not pull up my email confirmation as we were flying and there was no internet access. I had to lug my bag out of the overhead and search for a print out confirmation. I had not come prepared with the "evidence" the stewardess wanted. While the staff tried to be polite, I also found them to be quite rude, demanding that I produce evidence. Could they not have simply given me an extra salad without all the fuss? I felt I was being treated as a criminal for requesting a veggie meal that had, unfortunately, not been recorded in their system."
Voordelen: "Boarding process; comfortable legroom on the Boeing 787; 1st meal was also excellent"
Nadelen: "2nd meal, some sort of a rice seafood mixture"
Voordelen: "Short flight."
Voordelen: "I was surprised that such a short flight was able to use the newest generation of the 737, the 800 series. While as cramped your typical 737, the seat backs are super thin to allow just that much extra leg room for my two-meter frame. As always, the cabin crew was lovely."
Nadelen: "The DC China Embassy web site clearly states that a valid APEC Business Card can be used in lieu of a Chinese visa. In spite of this I was denied boarding by JAL. It turns out the system is not fully in place, and eventually I was issued a 10 year multiple entry visa by way of apology. JAL did not waive cancellation fee, and I suffered considerable economic damages."
Voordelen: "Our flight from Tokyo to Beijing was very pleasant. The flight attendants were very polite and helpful. There was a lot more leg room than most American/European airlines we have taken. The food was quite good and we even got Häagen-Dazs ice cream."
Nadelen: "I wish they had a larger movie selection, but they had most "New Releases"."

Nadelen: "The airline lost our luggage which in turn made us lose our connecting flight to Chicago. The staff did not help and the manager kept walking off to assist other people while in the middle of conversation! We could have made our flight of they were a bit more helpful and attentive. The staff was very unprofessional, extremely rude and ignored our concerns of not being able to sit with our 7year old daughter, at least one of us! They found us a flight to Seattle which then connected to Chicago but expected us to pay for the plane tickets since they denied responsibility for having lost our luggage. They said it was our fault we missed our flight. It was such a terrible experience for my family."
Voordelen: "Even though the communication in English was quite difficult with the majority of the flight attendants, one particular attendant was super nice and went to any length to take care of problems I and other non-Chinese speaking passengers experienced. Arriving in Beijing, I was worried about the proceedings as mentioned in the negativ comment box, but an employee from Hainan Airlines went to pick up passengers transferring to Seoul and take care of the check in process."
Nadelen: "Before boarding the flight, it was not possible to check in online to my connecting flight from Beijing to Seoul. I didn't receive the necessary information and even after I was told about it after calling an employee of Korean Air, I didn't work. The person I spoke with on telephon herself didn't understand, why the system didn't accept my attempt to check in online. That was quite bothersome since I could get a boarding ticket for my Korean Air flight beforehand. Normally I would have to leave the transit area, line up to check in, receive the ticket, go through all check-ups again and go to the gate of departure. My flight left just 2 hours after arriving in Beijing and at airports as big as Beijing, that could have been very close to not being able to make it in time."
Nadelen: "Management is not strict. Too many people standing at the back talking all the way. It bothers others to sleep. No one care about it."
Nadelen: "When I arrived in Beijing Airport, I had to pick up my luggage and re-check in...... It was so not convenient for me since I need to catch another flights :("
Voordelen: "The flight boarded on time, and arrived only approx. 30 minutes late for a 15 hour flight. The staff were friendly and seemed well-meaning."
Nadelen: "It seemed that the staff for the NY-Chengdu did not include anyone who spoke English beyond a few memorized phrases. Another passenger and I were standing in the back and speaking, and the crew asked her to tell me that we weren't allowed to stand there and had to return to our seats. Their lack of English would be a problem if there were an emergency of any sort. The flight attendant tried to wake me several times to give me my vegetarian meal. When I was finally awake enough to eat he said the food was no longer good, I should wait until the next meal time. Entertainment options for the NY-Chengdu flight were limited - current or recent English options were few. Foreign language (mostly Chinese) options had subtitles, but few looked like there would be an interesting and fun storyline. The entertainment system was broken for the Chengdu-Beijing flight."
Voordelen: "Food was quite good and there were plenty of TV and movie options to choose from. Little perks like warm washcloths before meals and a packet with slippers, an eye mask and a a toothbrush were a nice touch for an economy seat. Staff had a very helpful attitude."
Nadelen: "The checkin counter experience was not good. I had business class tickets but was checkin at an Economy counter resulting in my boarding pass not being for business class so when I went in to immigration lines and throughout the rest of the process I did not receive priority that Business class should have received. In addition when I enquirer about TSA preaplroval at the counter I was told Chicago does not have preaplroval at Terminal 5 but in reality passengers with TSA-pre were being sent through the lines without having to take off their shoes and laptops etc. overall the checkin process should have been much more informative."
Nadelen: "There was no vegetarian food."
Voordelen: "I was happy but not blown away but the carrier. I was spoiled last time I took a 14h trip to Japan on JAL in a dreamliner. That was amazing. This was about what I'd expect on a flight in a 737 to Chicago from Boston, but it was about five times longer! At least they had good food and the entertainment options were great."
Nadelen: "A little late in Beijing upon arrival. It may be better to adjust the flight time 2-3 hours earlier"

Voordelen: "This was my second experience with H.A., the first being in February. The entertainment selections are quite extensive and I enjoy them, and they do a good job boarding people. Plus I like the comfort bag (sleep mask, ear plugs, toothbrush and toothpaste, etc.) that H.A. provides."
Nadelen: "I found this trip lacking. First, the gate at which we were to wait for the airplane did not have enough seats and so many people had to look elsewhere. Further, the lights were out, giving a shadowed, unused-like quality. Fortunately boarding took place relatively quickly, but I was very disappointed with the arrival at the gate. I look forward to the meals that H.A. provides during the flight, but neither the dinner nor the breakfast main meals were tasty. I've had four trips now -- to and from China twice -- and this was by far the worst. I hope it is not repeated, H.A. really did a good job on my flight to the U.S. in January 2017. Further, the seat felt cramped and it was hard to relax. But the main problem was that H.A. actually ran out of soda towards the end of the flight, which was a real negative given that many of us were thirsty at that time. I found the show of sympathy from the Chinese flight attendant rather forced on this issue. NOT good."
Nadelen: "Our flight to beijing was delayed. Hainan airline was promised to arrange the hotel after our flight landed in Beijing airport. I wait over 2 hours, by the time they told us that they couldnt arrange the hotel for us, it's already 3 hours after. Eventually,I received a 200RMB compensation to find myself a place to stay, which caused me 1300RMB at the end."
Voordelen: "Our flight was delayed due to weather and we missed connecting flight. They automatically rebooked us and quickly took us to a hotel for some rest. Best cancellation handling I've ever had."
Voordelen: "Food was ok. And Airplane is pretty new nd clean."
Nadelen: "Connection!!! I did transit in Beijing to Mongolia. I even didn t realise Hainan airlines land in totally different terminal which is way far from main interbatinal terminal. I needed to take out all my suitcases and need to go terminal 3 international airport that is very far from where Hainan airlines landed to take my next flight. How sites can sell ticket like that without notice and warning!!!!!! Ver bad connection."
Voordelen: "The seat was okay, and the food was nice."
Nadelen: "Plane arrive very late, and I have to wait quite a long time for lift off. Due to late arrival, they ask me to wait 24 hour to take next flight to Bangkok. They bring me to free hotel, but the hotel was not good. Also, Hainan Airline is located in Terminal 2, not 3 which is quite old and ticketing and translating was annoying... this was my worst flight experience ever....."
Voordelen: "Because your BOS departure was several hours late, you arranged free lodging in PEK for the overnight connection. This is superb and first rate service."
Nadelen: "Departure in BOS was several hours late."
Voordelen: "The seat is ok"
Nadelen: "The first flight was canceled with no reason. No one sent me a notice and we had to beg the crew to find us a different airline to fly with. There was dellay in both flights. Will think twice next time before buying a ticket with Hainan Airlines"
Voordelen: "The crew, the crew, the crew... On both of my transpacific flights, I had two female crew members, unfortunately I did not get their names, that were attentive, kind, and did everything they could to make the passengers as comfortable as possible."
Nadelen: "Flights were delayed but I made the connections no proboem."
Nadelen: "Wifi is not available. It said wifi is available but later I was told only the business seats or higher level seats can enjoy it. 2h Delay without any compensation which made me go to U.S.A. without my baggage."
Voordelen: "It is nice to provide free accommodation to passengers who need to spend long hours between flights. This shows Hainan Airlines really cares about the customers."

Nadelen: "Went to check in early and was informed that a visa was required to enter mainland China. Was not informed of this when I left San Diego with a final destination point of Beijing. Was not allowed to board flight at all. Should have been informed upon booking flight what travel documents would be required to complete the flight. Staff was nice enough trying to help reconcile the issue but the it was too late"

Nadelen: "This was a SZX-PEK-SJC flight. It is irrational to demand a passage to pick up bags in Beijing's Terminal 2 and carry to Terminal 2 and re-check for the flight to San Jose. Very poor system."

Nadelen: "Can't use phone on plane regardless of whether the plane is taking off, landing, in the air, or if the phone is airplane mode. Connecting through China without a visa results in a lot of raised eyebrows. Don't be surprised if you find yourself frequent pulled aside in security checks and spend upwards of ten minutes trying to get sorted out. Chinese airports are different than western ones. Trying to come to terms to this wouldn't be so bad if not for the fact that China bans google, so there isn't any easy way to check online to understand how they operate. Generally just not very welcoming."
Voordelen: "The accommodations on the airplane were comfortable and fine."
Nadelen: "My luggage never made it to Tokyo. I have tried calling lost and found multiple times but nobody ever picks up. I have emailed them multiple times with no response. Everything I brought for my 2 month trip in Japan was in there. This has brought nothing but stress. I just want some sort of answer."
Voordelen: "All things"
Nadelen: "Stewardesses service and English language skill"
Nadelen: "Be aware that the boarding might not the via bridge, nothing bad, just be ready that it's a little different in China sometimes."
Nadelen: "my luggage had to be claimed in Beijing and re-checked in instead of claiming it in the destination. My flight from Kunming to Seattle (transition in Beijing) were all with Hainan and I am not sure why they do not check my luggage in Kunming all along to Seattle."
Voordelen: "I can now see that you connect XIY to that flight in PEK everyday with almost NO TIME to get the passengers to the connecting flight. I ca,,Ed 24 hours in advance to get a seat assignment. You told me it has to be 48 hours, and so I would have to get the PEK-ORD seating when I arrive the next day at XIY airport. At XIY you told me, that I would have to get the seat assignment at PEK when I arrived. It was after that, that the madness began! I arrived at PEK on time, but because you DID NOT check my bags through to ORD (like any sane airline would), you forced me to wait for my 1 checked on bag. While waiting, the hainan agent kept asking me with nicreasing urgency, "where is your bag"? COME ON - you people control that, I cannot do anything to speed up my bag. It is YOU that have to do that (that is incredibly stupid for you to put pressure on me for my bag arriving quickly!!!!). After my bag arrived, we literally RAN the entire length of the airport. My health is not good enough to do that, yet you pushed me and damaged my health for the entire day!!!!! Finally you handed me my ticket LITERALLY 1-minute before your system shut down ticketing!!!!! Of course, I had NO CHANCE to choose my seat. I am an American that works in China. I respect and very much like my Chinese workmates, but that fact and truth is that as far as China has come in the 20 years I have been working with her, there is still a very long journey ahead for her to provide consistent first world service. However, it was clear to me that your entire company understands this terrible situation you put your Xian customers in, and yet you think it is just fine to do that to them. My situation, must happen regularly as all the flying variables have to align perfectly for that connecting flight to be able to not have to run for the gate. Certainly it is impossibl, to choos your seat other than calling you more than 48 hours in advance. As a result, I was pigeonholed into a middle seat between two strangers into a seat so small, that ONLY a small child could sit in them for 12 hours and not be severely uncomfortable. Bottom line: SHAME ON YOU!!!!! I wil never ever never ever fly with you again. Which mean I have now put hainan and China eastern on my personal no-fly list. Just shameful you would do this to you honest paying customers. You do not deserve to have any loyalty from anyone!!!!"
Nadelen: "After I got on the flight, the flight attendant, Jessica! Went out of her way to help me. She is too good for you Hainan!!!! You do not deserve such a lovely and wonderful employee!!!!!"
Voordelen: "My special vegetarian food was not offered but the staff did their best to substitute my missing meal with what they had."
Voordelen: "The crew was accommodating during the flight but spoke very little English and could not help with information on connecting flight."
Nadelen: "We missed our connecting flight due to a delay and the airline would not let us through because we could have made our second flight...."

Voordelen: "Great entertainment - The plane offers a ton of blockbuster movies that are recent and from many catagories. They also offer TV from different lands and video games and selection of languages to hear them in. Great food - Even economy passengers get great free food during the trip. For a trip as long as going from Washington DC to BeiJing, they give you two dinners. Roominess - The seats are as cramped as any airline. However, the flight attendants don't give you are trouble when you want to get up and walk around and stay standing and talking with people of a long time. It has two isles so it feels pretty roomy to get up and walk around. Friendly staff- They make american flight staffs look very rude."
Nadelen: "Leading up to the flight, customer service can only be contacted by email. Don't even try calling. They never pick up and won't get back to you. At least the flight is very good."

Nadelen: "The food was terrible, the crew was rude, the seats were small, the plane was dirty inside"

Voordelen: "Even woth premium economy it still wasnt as good as thought it was going to be."
Nadelen: "Planes need to update seats"

Nadelen: "The airplane was old and dirty."
Voordelen: "I booked this time China air for my parents and because of delayed flight we had very bad experience. Japanese boarding ticking staff were cooperative but seems they don’t have power"
Nadelen: "They said they understand situation but they were afraid to solve but there were staff name Ms. Umeda Ms. Yasukawa and Ms. Ai were very nice trying to handling the situation but as we were very cooperative and understanding that not their fault. My parents are old my mother can’t walk probably and Blood pleasure patient. I ask for room in Beijing because of 18 hours delayed stay. But they failed for get Hotel. But Japanese staff were nice also crew. I would love to give 5/5 rating but honestly was bad experience only because of delayed flight and couldn’t get recovery."
Voordelen: "Crew members, especially Cooper Pan, were excellent, friendly, thorough, accommodating. I felt like a special customer on this flight! Food was very good, and I appreciated the options of different meals. Also very little turbulence. Thank you, Air China!"
Nadelen: "Horrible experience of sitting on the tarmac for more than four hours with no air conditioning in New York on a 95 degree day. I thought I would die. There seemed to be no concern among the crew for our extreme discomfort."
Nadelen: "The flight is cancelled and nobody had notified us. I only find out when I went to airport. No good"

Nadelen: "Beaucoup de retard sur le vol (5 heures) sur une escale déjà de 11 heures. Les agents au sol nous informaient très peu et très mal de ce qui se passait. Si ça avait été plus clair, déjà ça aurait été moins pire. De plus, le siège, tablette, la boucle de ceinture, étaient déjà sales au début du vol."
Voordelen: "qu'il serve un repas. avion pas trop rempli alors on a pu s'étendre sur les bancs et dormir"
Nadelen: "ils nous ont servi une sandwich quand c'était en plein milieu de la nuit."

Nadelen: "Our flight was severely delayed 6 hours from Heathrow, and that is where this horror story began. No one bothered to tell us anything. When we arrived in Beijing for our connection to Bangkok, we had to search out people for help, there was absolutely no one forthcoming with explanations. We were travelling as 2 friends, I was booked on one flight and my travelling companion on another 15 hours later! This only got changed when we explained that we both only had hand luggage! To then board the flight and sit on the tarmac, engines running, simply waiting, no explanations again!! Will we ever fly China Airways again?? If we could exchange our return flight tickets to that of another Star Alliance member we would."
Voordelen: "Nothing"
Nadelen: "This flight was delayed and I reached Beijing around 4am. I arrived at Haikou Airport early, and could have used an earlier flight. But I could not make it, due to the false information at the check-in counter. Considering my situation, the CA related staff made a proposal for upgrading for my seat on this flight. However, a bureaucratic chief purser harshly relected it. Furthermore, the only food served in the main cabin on this flight was a hamburger, and it smelled bad. It might have been rotten."
Voordelen: "I was surprised that there were tons of in flight entertainment to select from. Crew was also very nice"
Nadelen: "The seats weren’t the most comfy and one of the meals was bad"
Voordelen: "Boarding was prompt and efficient."
Nadelen: "No power sockets to charge phones, Entertainment selection and functionality completely outdated, just managed to watch 1 movie before I gave up trying. The air hostess tried to help but mentioned that it’s just slow. During dinner service I asked for a second glass of wine with my meal but was refused as only 1 glass of beer or wine is allowed per passenger and flight, which I found very stingy as an airline and irritating from a customer care perspective."
Voordelen: "Wide bed and good support for good sleep"
Nadelen: "Not a big movie selection"
Voordelen: "Love the space of airplane"
Nadelen: "The Air China ground staff was horrible. The return flight was late and so I missed my connection in Beijing. One of the flight attendants then blamed me for it because Kayak had booked the connecting flights too closely. I was then shuttled downstairs to ground crew who were terse, uncommunicative, and downright mean. I ended up in a hotel and can only hope this last part of my flight gets better. I’m still in beijing as I write this. And no wi fi on the domestic or international legs of the flight. Primitive."

Nadelen: "Service was not good, requested special meals weren't available, and the staff was quite rude about it."
Voordelen: "The crew were helpful and friendly throughout, trying to find out what we should do about missed connections during the flight, I was able to move to an empty exit seat (I'm 6'5") so the delay was relatively comfortable."
Nadelen: "Well we were delayed for an hour and missed connection as a result, but you can't really blame the airline for that."

Voordelen: "The staff, from airport to plane, were brilliant, the food was initially surprisingly nice, but by the time I'd been in transit long enough for the third meal, I just couldn't face it."
Nadelen: "The Seats were OK and the legroom was pretty bgood for economy, but the extra headrests on the larger Heatthrow/beijing aircraft came in at about shoulderblade height and made finding a truly comfortable position impossible. Definitely one to look at the price step ups for better seats in future."

Voordelen: "Aéroport de Wuhan : fonctionnel. Beaucoup de monde à cette période de l'année mais rien à redire."

Voordelen: "The crew was very nice."
Nadelen: "The planes are very old and lack basic comforts. As a business class traveler, the food was really below the standards of other airlines. Also some flights did not have individual entertainment systems. Finally the business class lounge in Beijing was the worst Ive ever seen. The food was basically instant noodles and small pastries. The whole experience was disappointing."

Voordelen: "restroom lines were less due to limited choice of drinks which turned out positive specially when flight was full."
Nadelen: "Had to call agency for confirming seats as web was never successful despite many try's. Agency in Washington was v good and helped. on long haul flights the choice of entertainment is poor. food could have been better"

Nadelen: "1 out of the 2 meals did not taste like much. Meat was extremely chewy. 2 hour layover was not enough time to do customs and re-check-in through security to catch the domestic flight. Beijing airport employees barely knew where to direct you for reacquiring a new flight."
