But they tell you, you have to make it there on your own. Another CRAZY information is that I thought at the very least the baggage will be transferred. But nope! You have to pick up the baggage and ride the train across town to the other station. Whoever made this itinerary should be really fired and no longer work at this company. Nadelen: "I wasn't allowed to reserve a seat - apparently they don't allow Kayak customers to reserve seats now. I was forced into a middle seat and was uncomfortable and dehydrated the majority of the trip. Nice girl at baggage check said she'd ask a manager to move me, and to let them know at the gate, but the people at the gate said no. I felt discriminated against because I didn't book through them and/or I'm not Japanese. They historically love to put mushrooms in their food, like a fetish. This left me with one choice for the entree - some version of oyakodon - eggs and chicken. In my box there were two enormous chunks of fat/skin and another unidentifiable part of the chicken, and about the amount of edible chicken as 1 1/2 nuggets from Chick-Fil-A. There was more lotus root than chicken, so basically I had a box of rice and scrambled eggs with garnish. For the second meal, it was the Yoshinoya gyudon - a small serving of thinly sliced beef with rice. If I bought this fresh at a Yoshinoya restaurant, it would cost about $3. It's the rough equivalent of serving you a McDouble - cheap and filling and a coin toss if you get stomach pains. I lost that coin toss. Unless there is a big fare difference or I find out that their reserved seat policies are changed, I will choose ANA or another carrier. I used to enjoy JAL, but I cannot abide by idiotic decisions that seemed designed to punish people for using 3rd-party booking sites or who are not Japanese."
Nadelen: "The fact that my father was diagnosed with Cancer and they wouldn’t refund our 1300.00 for round trip tickets to the Philippines which is our vacation home. The airline required documentation from my fathers doc which I provided. He was not going anywhere for at least a year (radiation and chemo) and the denied even credit.I was able to get my parents tickets refunded by a different airline. NEVER Again. my father passed 8/12/2018. Our trip was scheduled for 9/13/2018. Very disappointing.see"

Voordelen: "The seating on this plane was super spacious and comfortable- leg and seats. Also the seatbelt gave real room. The plane was cleaned; crew friendly, food delicious- featuring semi- famous chefs and well ventilated."

To top it off towards the end of the trip they put toothbrushes in the bathroom so you can leave fresh, awesome."

Nadelen: "We were informed our flight was not to land in Haneda but at Narita. We specifically picked that flight pattern because of the ease of traveling from Hawaii to Haneda to Naha. We wouldn't have to drag two large suitcases and a rollaboard after checking out of customs and immigration very far. Same airport to land and depart. Well the arrival airport was changed to Narita $32.00 per person for Airport Limobus to Haneda. We get off at Haneda and are informed we cannot stay there and wait at the domestic airport for our 6:25 am flight to Naha. We had to load all 6 pieces of luggage on the shuttle bus and transfer to the international terminal because they close the domestic terminal at midnight. There was no hotel accommodations at the domestic airport as the hotel was booked two months in advance!!! We had to wait at the international airport terminal till 4:30 am when we then transferred back to the domestic terminal with our 6 pieces of luggage. Tell me how happy you'd be!!!"

Nadelen: "As usual it is most difficult moving through the airport in China. It took a long time to get our bags and they were "damaged", however my box made it without difficulty."

"The flight yesterday on 7/14/2011 was canceled. We haven’t received any notifications of the cancellation. My elderly mom had to sit in the excruciatingly hot Domodedovo airport, without any working conditioners with the temperature inside of the airport nearing 30 C, for more than 24 hours. She was afraid to get up to go to the bathroom, because she was afraid she will loose her sit at the airport. After my mom was informed that her flight was canceled, she asked, what she supposed to do now and where she should go, where would she sleep. She was told by Lufthansa representatives that it is non of their business and she can do whatever she wants. No food vouchers, nor hotel accommodations were offered to my elderly mom. My mom had to pay extra money and get another COVID test because the one she had was expiring on 7/14/2021. Nobody even cares that she has been vaccinated here in USA and has her vaccinations voutcher with her. It is horrendous, what is happening right now!!!!!! Not only my mom became a victim of shooting at her Kingsooper’s store in USA, she couldn’t even return back home to USA in a comfortable, human way after the trip that where supposed to take my mom’s mind off of the shooting at her store. Instead it is causing now enormous anxiety and fear. I am praying that tomorrow she will return back home to USA and non of her flights will be canceled again!"

We had to go through security twice to do this. The flight was not changed to the correct time on the board until it was boarding for the scheduled time. Meanwhile we worried we would miss our next flight. HU7606 May 26, 2018. Very stressful."

I couldn't get my dietary preferences to Hainan early enough, so I did not get a full meal, BUT the stewardesses were very kind and accommodating- no vegan meal, but they hooked me up with snacks!"
Nadelen: "Entertainment system was a little dated. Headphone adapter (1 to 2 prong adapter) was kind of janky/lightweight."
Nadelen: "The airline lost our luggage which in turn made us lose our connecting flight to Chicago. The staff did not help and the manager kept walking off to assist other people while in the middle of conversation! We could have made our flight of they were a bit more helpful and attentive. The staff was very unprofessional, extremely rude and ignored our concerns of not being able to sit with our 7year old daughter, at least one of us! They found us a flight to Seattle which then connected to Chicago but expected us to pay for the plane tickets since they denied responsibility for having lost our luggage. They said it was our fault we missed our flight. It was such a terrible experience for my family."
Voordelen: "Even though the communication in English was quite difficult with the majority of the flight attendants, one particular attendant was super nice and went to any length to take care of problems I and other non-Chinese speaking passengers experienced. Arriving in Beijing, I was worried about the proceedings as mentioned in the negativ comment box, but an employee from Hainan Airlines went to pick up passengers transferring to Seoul and take care of the check in process."
Nadelen: "Before boarding the flight, it was not possible to check in online to my connecting flight from Beijing to Seoul. I didn't receive the necessary information and even after I was told about it after calling an employee of Korean Air, I didn't work. The person I spoke with on telephon herself didn't understand, why the system didn't accept my attempt to check in online. That was quite bothersome since I could get a boarding ticket for my Korean Air flight beforehand. Normally I would have to leave the transit area, line up to check in, receive the ticket, go through all check-ups again and go to the gate of departure. My flight left just 2 hours after arriving in Beijing and at airports as big as Beijing, that could have been very close to not being able to make it in time."
Voordelen: "The service on the plane was good and polite . The person in Beijing that helped us in the transfer service was especially nice and helpful! Without this help, I would have missed the flight to Tel Aviv."
Nadelen: "A delay of an hour and a half, that created a lot of tension, because I was sure I’ll miss my connection to Tel Aviv."
Nadelen: "Wasn't allowed to check in online, and so couldn't get a good seat"
Voordelen: "The flight boarded on time, and arrived only approx. 30 minutes late for a 15 hour flight. The staff were friendly and seemed well-meaning."
Nadelen: "It seemed that the staff for the NY-Chengdu did not include anyone who spoke English beyond a few memorized phrases. Another passenger and I were standing in the back and speaking, and the crew asked her to tell me that we weren't allowed to stand there and had to return to our seats. Their lack of English would be a problem if there were an emergency of any sort. The flight attendant tried to wake me several times to give me my vegetarian meal. When I was finally awake enough to eat he said the food was no longer good, I should wait until the next meal time. Entertainment options for the NY-Chengdu flight were limited - current or recent English options were few. Foreign language (mostly Chinese) options had subtitles, but few looked like there would be an interesting and fun storyline. The entertainment system was broken for the Chengdu-Beijing flight."
Voordelen: "The staff was friendly and attentive and were up often with beverage service"
Nadelen: "The entertainment system was awful. The sound quality was terrible and the touch screen was horribly misaligned"
Nadelen: "The checkin counter experience was not good. I had business class tickets but was checkin at an Economy counter resulting in my boarding pass not being for business class so when I went in to immigration lines and throughout the rest of the process I did not receive priority that Business class should have received. In addition when I enquirer about TSA preaplroval at the counter I was told Chicago does not have preaplroval at Terminal 5 but in reality passengers with TSA-pre were being sent through the lines without having to take off their shoes and laptops etc. overall the checkin process should have been much more informative."
Nadelen: "There was no vegetarian food."
Voordelen: "I was happy but not blown away but the carrier. I was spoiled last time I took a 14h trip to Japan on JAL in a dreamliner. That was amazing. This was about what I'd expect on a flight in a 737 to Chicago from Boston, but it was about five times longer! At least they had good food and the entertainment options were great."
Nadelen: "A little late in Beijing upon arrival. It may be better to adjust the flight time 2-3 hours earlier"
Voordelen: "Business class service"
Voordelen: "We have a 4-month old boy and getting to preboard was nice. The crew was great, letting us move about with freedom, and helping with finding bathrooms with changing tables, etc."
Nadelen: "There were at least several other babies besides ours on the flight, and only two bassinets available. We would've appreciated more options, and in the future will look for airlines/flights with better accommodations for infants. Music and movie selection wasn't as good as some flights we've been on."
Nadelen: "Food quality should improve"
Nadelen: "There was no allowed use of smartphones at all so I was not able to watch my personal movies. Additionally, the Hollywood movies on my in-flight entertainment system provided by Hainan Airlines did not work. When I asked the flight attendant, I was only told that it didn't work."
Voordelen: "They provided the flight replacement"
Nadelen: "The airplane had some technical problem and after sitting 1,5h inside we had to come back to the airport and wait another 4h for another airplane. The communication was poor, there was lack of information, at least for those who don't speak Chinese.."
Nadelen: "I booked a flight to Thailand with 2 stops in china. Nowhere when I booked, in the confirmation or emails back and forth from kayak did it have ANY visa warning. Even if you are only connecting and passing through china you must do so in 24 hours. KAYAK had given me 25 hours of layovers and FAILED TO INFORM OR EVEN WARN ME OF THIS BEING AN ISSUE. I was stuck at Toronto airport for over an hour frantically trying to book a connecting flight out of Beijing so I could take 1 of the 3 flights I paid for. So thank you for having me forfeit 2 flights due to your lack of information kayak. WILL NOT BE USING YOU AGAIN."
Voordelen: "Boarded early because of my wife's ankle injury, staff was helpful and guided us to our seats and made sure we were taken care of. Food was good but not the best I've had on a Chinese airline (see Dragon Air). Entertainment was lacking but enough to hold me over on the flight. Shades on the entire aircraft were operated automatically so we could get some shut-eye."
Nadelen: "The level of English was not up to par for an international flight with foreign travelers to China. I would hate to be in an emergency when one pilot was the only native English speaker and everyone else was scripted and terribly accented."
Voordelen: "This was my second experience with H.A., the first being in February. The entertainment selections are quite extensive and I enjoy them, and they do a good job boarding people. Plus I like the comfort bag (sleep mask, ear plugs, toothbrush and toothpaste, etc.) that H.A. provides."
Nadelen: "I found this trip lacking. First, the gate at which we were to wait for the airplane did not have enough seats and so many people had to look elsewhere. Further, the lights were out, giving a shadowed, unused-like quality. Fortunately boarding took place relatively quickly, but I was very disappointed with the arrival at the gate. I look forward to the meals that H.A. provides during the flight, but neither the dinner nor the breakfast main meals were tasty. I've had four trips now -- to and from China twice -- and this was by far the worst. I hope it is not repeated, H.A. really did a good job on my flight to the U.S. in January 2017. Further, the seat felt cramped and it was hard to relax. But the main problem was that H.A. actually ran out of soda towards the end of the flight, which was a real negative given that many of us were thirsty at that time. I found the show of sympathy from the Chinese flight attendant rather forced on this issue. NOT good."
Voordelen: "Flight was canceled but didn't know it because of internet restrictions in China. Communication throughout the entire 13 hour ordeal of trying to get to Beijing and getting another flight to the United States was poor. Observation is that international flights seem much better than domestic fligbts."
Nadelen: "the ticket counter would not give us our boarding passes. With a flight at 7 am and at the counter at 5 am the counter said we were too late. However, we watched as they kept giving others, the Chinese citizens, their tickets. They then walked us to the other side of the airport and left us at a China southern counter and told us to purchase all new tickets. For three hours we negotiated with them that we already had tickets. In the end, Hainan would. It grant us any. Parsing passes. We missed our flight and had to purchase new tickets through China Southern."
Voordelen: "lay-over time in Beijing was a bad experience. Did not know we had to take out luggage, get visa, find hotel, etc, etc, etc and then check in again in another terminal the following day. Pain in the butt (sorry for the expression)."
Voordelen: "The seat was okay, and the food was nice."
Nadelen: "Plane arrive very late, and I have to wait quite a long time for lift off. Due to late arrival, they ask me to wait 24 hour to take next flight to Bangkok. They bring me to free hotel, but the hotel was not good. Also, Hainan Airline is located in Terminal 2, not 3 which is quite old and ticketing and translating was annoying... this was my worst flight experience ever....."
Voordelen: "Because your BOS departure was several hours late, you arranged free lodging in PEK for the overnight connection. This is superb and first rate service."
Nadelen: "Departure in BOS was several hours late."
Voordelen: "The seat is ok"
Nadelen: "The first flight was canceled with no reason. No one sent me a notice and we had to beg the crew to find us a different airline to fly with. There was dellay in both flights. Will think twice next time before buying a ticket with Hainan Airlines"
Voordelen: "It is nice to provide free accommodation to passengers who need to spend long hours between flights. This shows Hainan Airlines really cares about the customers."
Voordelen: "Seat pitch better than many others in economy. Free inflight WiFi was great!"
Nadelen: ""Hollywood" and "New Releases" sections were empty, so only two English language movies for a 12 hour flight."
Voordelen: "Crew is nice and food is fine."
Nadelen: "Fly Shenzhen to Beijing to San Jose, why the luggage can't directly to San Jose? I have to pickup my luggage at Beijing and check in again. Beijing is just a transfer."
Voordelen: "The staff was pleasant."
Nadelen: "This was a SZX-PEK-SJC flight. It is irrational to demand a passage to pick up bags in Beijing's Terminal 2 and carry to Terminal 2 and re-check for the flight to San Jose. Very poor system."
Nadelen: "The connection btween Shangjai and Beijing was terriblle. On my way to Shanghai from Beijing I missed my flight because of your airline. There was no one to help me to resolve the problem. I am an experince traveler and never had this attitude from an airline before."
Nadelen: "When check in，the counter said my booking has problem. The problem was my 2 tickets used one ID，so they didn't let my friend check in. But I never fill ID when booking，only names provided. I don't know what caused that problem. They asked me to call you to modify the booking info，and the calling always said no booking related my phone number：（ A long time later，they printed tickets and let us to try and said they can't guarantee we can flight…"
Voordelen: "Pretty decent food and service, reasonable leg room for economy long haul flights."
Nadelen: "bags were delayed in Bejing and came a day later because they moved up the departure time of our connecting flight TWO days before arrival."
Nadelen: "I've travelled extensively and ok many different airlines and Hainan is by far the worst. Not good communicating prior to the flight especially about delays. The food was in edible. Seats where uncomfortable and on each flight here was something broken on my seat. No entertainment on flights between Bangkok and Beijing. The crew was So unfriendly and wouldn't help at all when we asked them for help when one of our travel companions was ill."
Voordelen: "Relatively polite staff"
Nadelen: "Can't use phone on plane regardless of whether the plane is taking off, landing, in the air, or if the phone is airplane mode. Connecting through China without a visa results in a lot of raised eyebrows. Don't be surprised if you find yourself frequent pulled aside in security checks and spend upwards of ten minutes trying to get sorted out. Chinese airports are different than western ones. Trying to come to terms to this wouldn't be so bad if not for the fact that China bans google, so there isn't any easy way to check online to understand how they operate. Generally just not very welcoming."
Voordelen: "The stewardesses on board were not very friendly at all in general. For some reason one stewardess continue sending bottled water to a passensenger sitting next to me along the way from San Jose to Beijing but not one time she would ask me if I need water at all as I sat at the aisle seat Ava the other passenger getting the special attention was at a window seat."
Nadelen: "Bathroom was dirty and not enough tissue paper. Favoring to certain passengers on board and not having any courtesy or caring for other passengers. Foods were mediocre and not supplying to the passengers at the departure location dinner time; instead of providing to San Jose dinner time at 7pm but the meal was provided at 1am after the midnight."
Nadelen: "Be aware that the boarding might not the via bridge, nothing bad, just be ready that it's a little different in China sometimes."
Voordelen: "The crew was really good. Gave food and drinks all the time. Entertainment movies was good too."
Nadelen: "The chair was not really comfortable was really hard to fly 12 hours in that chair"
Voordelen: "crew was good. Seat was good but it was a business class seat in a 787-9; so it should be good."
Nadelen: "wines were mediocre which was balanced out by the good quality of the food. Brussels to Abu Dabhi boarding was a little chaotic with coach and front cabin passesgers packed in a single bus. Noticed many older passengers standing for the longish bus ride."
Voordelen: "Super easy check in. Good air hosting staff."
Nadelen: "Same as ALWAYS - Beijing baggage pickup is an absolute joke. Takes forever and it is generally mayhem in the baggage hall. They really need to get ahold of this space and the behaviour of Chinese travelers."

Nadelen: "Le racket de cette compagnie commence dès l'enregistrement. Nous étions en famille avec deux enfants. Premier bonheur de devoir payer 63 euros de plus pour éviter d'être disséminés aux 4 coins de l'avion, le système par défaut ayant fait cela !!! Deuxième bonheur l'avion est en fait quasi vide.."

Nadelen: "Check-in and boarding was too long and confusing. Too much to walk between one place to next. Overkill on security and baggage check. Food was terrible. Second full meal was chopped up to just a salad and main dish...no bread or dessert. Air hostess could be more pleasant. Flight was late 1 hr."

Nadelen: "1 hour delay to begin with. Then trasfer area at Abu Dhabi was utter chaos. While it's suffocatingly crowded, there was no A.C! No vegetarian option for meal on the flight from Brussels to Abu Dhabi. The seats hurt by bottom. One of the worst flight seats ever. All in all, a totally underwhelming experience."

Often rolling their eye and making overt gestures to passenger questions - one crew member just threw the food tray down and it all spilled over another passenger - they also struggle with english and so is hard understanding both ways - abslote the worst food selection and quality in my experience. Better pack your own food from home"

Nadelen: "As far as I'm concerned, this is the worst airline I've ever flown. We got stuck with $350 in baggage fees, because a clause stating that we were not allowed a check-in bag was buried in the fine print for our ticket purchase. The website was not working prior to our return flight, and if it had worked, we would have been able to get at least a discount on this outrageous fee. But , despite this, (we took a screenshot) the counter staff in Abu Dhabi would not give us the discount. A baggage fee for $350 dollars for one bag? There is word for this. Thievery."

Nadelen: "Movie selection in the entertainment needs more options. No basic amenity kit (like blinds, socks and toothbush) was provided in the flight like Emirates Certain sections of the Abu Dhabi airport are disappointing. Bathrooms in that particular section of the airport were really dirty and broken. Also travelling by bus to the airplane is not desired for such a major airline home airport. I read somewhere that airport is going to go through major renovation in 2019, so I hope it will become as good as Dubai airport"

Nadelen: "The flight had TOo few restrooms. About 4 for 250 people or so. There was at least a 15 minute wait at almost any given time."
Nadelen: "AVML food was requested but I have never had worst food than on this flight (ever in my life). The crew to abu Dhabi was Ok but I had the worst experience ever on the flight to Ahmedabad. The staff was OK only. The entertainment was sub par. I recently flew Delta domestic flights and it had many newer English and Hindi movies than on this flight to India, go figure. I think even Air India may have newer and many more movie choices than this air line. I flew my sick father with Catheter business class but the restrooms in the business class were same small pigeon hole size. We could not even fit inside to empty out the bag. Don't buy business thinking of the luxury of space. It is a myth."
Nadelen: "Staff is rude. No efforts to make the customer feel comfortable. Just get the money and disown attitude."
Voordelen: "Everything ran smoothly!! People are very friendly and staff were amazing!"

Voordelen: "Loved the amount of leg room in economy class. Also impressed with the number of entertainment options, especially the movies. The things provided in each seat (blanket, pillow, socks, etc) were very generous and nice as well."

Nadelen: "Le vol était complet et nous nous sommes vu proposés éventuellement un vol AF direct en remplacement. Après notre acceptation, en dernière minute, nous avons finalement embarqué sur ETIHAD. Là fut notre erreur car lors de la correspondance à Abu dhabi nous étions de nouveau surbooké à 23h00 ! malgré nos borading pass. Au bout de 2h de négociation nous avons obtenu une chambre d'hotel de 1h du matin à 6h.... pour reprendre le vol suivant à 8h30.... Aucune indemnisation, ni surclassement, as même un code wifi .... COMPAGNIE A EVITER A TOUT PRIS, c'est du LOW COST et le SAV est CATASTROPHIQUE. Nadelen: "Horrible and disorganized service crew. Went without food for 2 of three service seasons as they forgot a whole section to service. Had to repeatedly ask and in one case finally got something to eat 40 mins later. Poor sequence of beverage and food service."
