We had to go through security twice to do this. The flight was not changed to the correct time on the board until it was boarding for the scheduled time. Nadelen: "Some kind of squabble broke out and it seemed to take the flight attendants a while to settle the people down. The menu said that snacks were available but I never saw any offered. Attendants came around regularly with hot water but no refills for other drinks. My tray table was broken. my food tray slid into my lap because the table wasn't sitting horizontally. Could not check in online, cannot check for 2nd (connecting) flight when checking in for first flight in person in China. As a non Chinese citizen you cannot check in via the kiosk. It's a pain."

My gut instinct told me the flight was delayed because i saw food being stacked at the counter and then the peoole in front of the line was picking the food up and sitting back down. That is my only real complaint about this airline. The food was was okay."

Voordelen: "The Hainan airline uses the latest and most mordern and comfortable equipment. Excellent services from the staff. food as good as can be expected on the far back end of the aircraft. I will definitely fly Hainan again if this is an option. I was especially impressed by the hard work carried out by the cabin staff."
Nadelen: "The boarding procedure was a real mess. The use of several aircraft being 'loaded' from a small space using buses, etc and no direct access to aircraft made the Hainan experience something very low. However, I assume this is an airport administrative responsibility and not necessarily something the airline selected. Th movie/sound selections could be better........but this could be because the selections were focusing on a Chinese audience, mostly?????? Not sure about this."

Nadelen: "Connection!!! I did transit in Beijing to Mongolia. I even didn t realise Hainan airlines land in totally different terminal which is way far from main interbatinal terminal. I needed to take out all my suitcases and need to go terminal 3 international airport that is very far from where Hainan airlines landed to take my next flight. How sites can sell ticket like that without notice and warning!!!!!! Ver bad connection."

Voordelen: "Staff and crew remained polite and professional in the face of some difficult, older Floridians (Sorry to all of the decent Floridians out there). One young flight attendant made a HUGE effort to turn around their mood. He wasn't very successful, but it was a valiant attempt."

Nadelen: "My luggage never made it to Tokyo. I have tried calling lost and found multiple times but nobody ever picks up. I have emailed them multiple times with no response. Everything I brought for my 2 month trip in Japan was in there. This has brought nothing but stress. I just want some sort of answer"
Voordelen: "Their business class is great. When we had to change planes in Beijing (we flew from Shanghai to Chicago by way of Beijing), they sent someone to guide us from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2. Since most of the signs at the airport were not that understandable, it relieved us of stress. And, of course, it's nice to be picked up by limousine and driven to the airport! And flat beds, excellent food, caring flight attendants."

They know that there is a problem with luggage transfer on connecting flight, but don't bother to do anything about it. Customer service representative is not able to provide any information, doesn't even understand English well. Nobody answers the phone... At this point, we're still waiting for our bags"

Nadelen: "Only airline that made us check in our luggage; and charged us an exorbitant amount (+/- $90 per luggage) in doing so. No customer service at all. 1st attendant wouldn’t let us check-in at the counter, and 2nd attendant made us check in our carry-on despite it only being 2kg over. We could’ve moved some items around. When we boarded the plane, we saw multiple people whose carry-on looked suspiciously over the weight limit. We felt singled out. It was obvious that this airline only cares about profit and does not care about the customer. Attendants were rude and not helpful. Needless to say I will nit fly with this airline again."
Nadelen: "If you want to have a different meal than what they offer, you have to contact customer service before hand. I never been on a flight so far, where there wasn’t a vegetarian option. So I was pretty surprised when they just offered beef fajitas. I asked for a vegetarian option only to find out there isn’t none. The flight attendant wasn’t super nice about it either, she just said you have to order it online. But at no point I got an email saying, if you want something different than what we offer, tell us! So that was pretty annoying..."

The booking never made it clear that I was not allowed to check my suitcase and I had to pay € 70 extra both coming and going and thereby paid 1 1/2 times more for my suitcase than for my ticket. I am very disappointed to be 'tricked' in this way and consider it a very dishonest business practice."

Even though it should be a much less busy time to be assisted, air hostesses would just point you to the drinks when you ask for water or whatever, which explained why the back was so messy because essentially it turned into a self service snack bar. I observed this for both of my 16 hour flights."

The zipper on my suitcase had been opened by someone and now will not properly close after I retrieved my bag when I arrived in Incheon International airport in South Korea. I hope that I will not have problems with my suitcase when I complete the last 2 parts of my trip back to the U.S. from Korea"

Some government inspectors went through my checked suitcase and removed a lithium power pack and left me a note."

Nadelen: "The boarding area at the Wuhan airport is miserable. There was one tiny shop to buy some snacks, and nothing else. There was a completely empty Duty Free store, and no available food options - even though it was in the middle of the day. My flight departed from Gate 2, International Terminal. The entertainment options in the flight were plenty, however, the sound on my system did not work. Therefore, I was not able to use the system throughout the entire 14 hour flight."
Voordelen: "During the transit ( 11 hours in the night at the guangzhou airport) ..the company offerd me for free a room in a 4 stras hotel....so wonderfull ....I think this service exist only in China..maybe in southern china :)"
Voordelen: "I had just suffered multiple breaks in my arm/shoulder and was returning to the States. I was in considerable pain and flying alone - this was the first flight out I could get. Everyone was AMAZING. From helping to rearrange seats, other passengers, and even upgrade to maximize comfort and minimize more damage to my arm to helping open any food packages so that I could eat with medication and checking in on me frequently, I couldn't have asked for better attention given the situation. I hadn't heard of this airline before but now highly recommend - they were amazing through two flight legs, two different airline crews, and 3 airports. Cannot thank the crew enough for their attention and care during a very difficult time. I am a frequent traveler and this is the best customer experience I've ever had."

Nadelen: "Flight was delayed. Staff was unorganized and had no clue what was going on. flight was delayed again and again but the staff at the gate neglected to inform the customers who were waiting for hours what wasn't going on. And to top it off, they couldn't speak English..."

Nadelen: "They changed my flight hours before I was due to leave to another flight the arrived later then my connecting flight left. They offered to change the flight to one that would cause a 23 hour layover in Ghangzhou. They refused to pay for accommodation or even upgrade me for the inconvenience. The customer service representatives were rude and not helpful. I ended up having to get a refund. I flew with Korean Airlines and had a great experience. I'll never consider using them again."
Nadelen: "On a 2:20hr flight they start movie 20-30 minutes after takeoff and turn off at top of descent (22 mins before landing) Why consistently show 2hr (avg) length movies (in the case X-Men Apocalypse), thus on last 3 flights on this route, no movie has been finished. Either start earlier/end later or pick Videos that fit in the time window they offer for viewing"

Went to check in and the carrier said sorry you can’t board United did not book you. The voucher just has prior info and this flight time. So we missed getting on that flight 3 total hours on the phone with United and they did nothing but put us on hold. Thank you to Brussels air who finally after many years and frustration helped us so we could leave. More than 10 hours later than we should have. Horrible experience and we lost a day of vacation and pre paid plans for the evening I will never use kayak again for international flights. As that was part of the problem per United (probably BS but won’t ever risk it again) and will never use United airlines again as their customer service and lack of caring showed that companies true colors. I hope the rest of this dream vacation is better than this nightmare was."

Voordelen: "1. We booked seats together then when I checked in they had moved my seat and we were no longer sitting together. And then I couldnt get the window seat I had paI'd for :( 2. No boarding announcement and the "gate" was under construction so was a madhouse to board. 3. The crew member put her sweater in my food and pushed the coffee so hard to the person next to me it spilled all over him. To be fair she did apologize for throwing coffee on him. 4. The TV screens were so old you had to push the "touch" screen so your headrest kept moving if the person behind you couldn't decided what to watch... and then hard to watch anything yourself. The food was nasty."

Voordelen: "I like the web that show me my travel schedules, I don’t need to look for email. But when I check in airport, they ask me flight confirmation number which I don’t know either that number doesn’t indicate. So I hope that you also include flight confirmation number too."

Nadelen: "This was a discount garbage carrier. I have ridden on cargo boats off the coast of Nicaragua that I would recommend before Xiamen. They don’t give you your connecting boarding pass when you leave the country. You have to go through China’s bullshit customs service three times just to get to your next flight. Chinese customs is like a bowl full of retarted fish smelling their own farts. Six people doing nothing while one blithering idiot Stubles through paperwork."

Nadelen: "The seats don't even recline, so I could not lie back to rest. The entertainment system was very bad, didn't provide earphones and could barely see the screen. I would not choose to fly this airline again."

Bend over a take one for the team like a man just Go to a travel agent in any in China Town. $100 US will get you a bias good for 10 years and it only take a week. Otherwise fly Delta for $1200."
Nadelen: "Limited selection of English language movies but hey it was a China airline so no bit surprise there."
Voordelen: "Flew business class. Cabin crew was some of the most attentive I have experienced. Food was very good and nicely presented. Pillows could be better, but had two. Same with blankets. One thick and puffy, the other lighter. Nice for temperature regulation."
Nadelen: "First leg lax - Tao delayed almost 3 hours. Fortunately the 2nd leg was delayed 1.5 hours. 3rd leg on this itinerary was also delayed, I could have made the flight, but they gave my seat away. It was a bit of a Charlie Foxtrot rearranging flights and overnighting Hotel. 2.5 hours. A supervisor was needed to sort it all out. We will see if the above was bad circumstances or not. I run the same itinerary in reverse on the way home in a week."

Nadelen: "The check in staff did not let me check in and denied to support me! The reason was that my first name, middle name and last name were written in English order, not in Chinese order! I want my money back! All of my plan and meetings in Xiamen were cancelled!"
Voordelen: "Nothing. never boarded. Took the train instead."
Nadelen: "1 hour connection. I missed my flight because the flight out of LAX got delayed."
Voordelen: "1. Friendly crew and attention 2. Affordable direct flight from LAX to XMN 3. Good timing"
Nadelen: "1. Seat cushion is too thin, resulting in painful butt after 12-14 hrs flight 2. The in-seat screen doesn't tilt, thus when front passenger reclined seat, the screen is right in front of your face (less than 5-inches). You need to crank your neck down to watch any programming which results in neck pain 3. Entertainment and food have much room to improve"
Nadelen: "I was very sick and contagious and asked for a single person hotel room for the night before a connecting flight. It was not accommodated. It would have cost extra 100-200 yuan. Then when we asked for the shuttle to the hotel, the security at the departures level meant we could not exit and be picked up. No one could arrange pick up at arrivals. Instead we paid for a taxi ourselves. Poor service and coordination, especially considering I could barely talk and just badly needed a rest."
Voordelen: "Kept me well hydrated, supplied tissues that helped me bear a long flight while sick. Early arrival appreciated. Fresh fruit was good."
Nadelen: "Crew might have cleared away medications by mistake but they tried hard to find it, inquired all attendants and even looked through the trash. I missed the passing of of declaration forms twice while I was in the bathroom and when we landed the customs people directed me wrong so I had to wait a long time in line to get through customs without water which made me sicker and I had to go to the doctor."
Voordelen: "Price and flight were great. Communicating was small problem. 5 am arrival nothing open so couldn't change money for food, taxi etc. Finally found an ATM that worked. People used their cell phones to try and communicate."

Nadelen: "How are these people still in business? The only people answering customer service hotlines were from the main HQ who only spoke Chinese and would immediately transfer callers to a line for “forgeiners” which would just ring awhile and then disconnect. Same thing happened for at least 10 different people stranded by cancelled flights, even had people trying to call for me from the US. A travel agency was able to switch my friends flights, only to be blocked at his gate by an uninformed Xiamen agent saying he needed a visa for his layover in China, ultimately forcing him to buy a whole new ticket. Xiamen never answered, reimbursed, or recitified any of this. On the flight there, flight attendants had attitudes and SMOKED IN AIRPLANE, it STANK like an ashtray!!! And the food was the worst I ever encountered."

Nadelen: "I was denied a boarding pass and was not allowed to transit through China, because of a visa that was needed I was not told about by Kayak.com. Therefore, being the last day I was allowed to stay in Thailand, I had to scramble to find an outbound flight the same day, including paying almost double the cost of the original flight. The Thai check-in agent told me to never transit through mainland China again, because the visa requirement information that is not provided."
Voordelen: "Crews, food. Also Transfer Lounge in Xiamen is a good place without charge."
Nadelen: "Boarding because we have to take bus at Xiamen airport.Also, security checks at Xiamen are very complicated."
Nadelen: "The flight was delayed due to air traffic control. Subsequently I missed my connecting flight -- Xiamen to Manila that evening and had to spend another night in China. Next flight out of Xiamen was 6pm, Nov 2. Xiamen ground staff was very helpful in booking me the option to fly China Southern to Guangzhou the night of Nov 1, stay for free in a hotel, and then take the 0835 morning China Southern flight from Guangzhou to Manila. It was difficult to identify the right people to speak with and get clear assistance and direction in both Xiamen and Guangzhou."
Voordelen: "Gave me a free hotel when I was transferring in Fuzhou. All I had to pay was the taxi fare of 20kuai. The staff are extremely nice and the food from JFK to FOC was excellent. 2 full meals and a sandwich left me pretty full."
Nadelen: "It is difficult to get in touch with the English Customer service."
Voordelen: "Crew and staff are professional and worked well together, fairly efficient"
Nadelen: "Upon landing, there was a problem with airport customs and immigration which prevented the passengers from leaving the plane. Crew needs to be more proactive with (1) passengers getting up too early and blocking the aisle out of turn. An elder woman was trying to get her bags and exit her row and passengers from behind were not letting her collect and exit. I stopped the rude people from the back who were getting off out of turn. Instructions need to be issued, let people get off the plane in orderly fashion. and (2) crew did not inform passengers what was happening with immigration and customs holdings things up until I hit the service button a few times. Tell the passengers what is going on rather than allow tempers to heat up"
Voordelen: "Crew was excellent"
Voordelen: "International carriers kick butt on US domestic carriers. As a A+ SWA traveler, I know my 787s like the back of my hand. Xiamen had a Business class section (small & unfortunately: untested by me). Economy was as expected but imagine getting a Bao (chicken) & packaged fruit, pastries, pickled cucumbers. Hey, beats a pack of peanuts. You could also get a white or red wine (didn't try them) - all for the price of admission. Take that UA, Delta, & AA! Why can't foreign carriers bring their game to the US routes and really give some competition!"
Nadelen: "No entertainment (there was some fold down screens playing some ads) but the volume was so low that nobody paid any attention to it. At least someone can read a sentence in English (and there were pre-recorded anouncements)."
Nadelen: "The staff was rude and the flight was delayed twice."
Voordelen: "The entertainment system the company provides for international flights is very nice. Movies and games keep you entertained."
Nadelen: "Flight was Shanghai to Fuzhou, 10 hour layover and Fuzhou to JFK. Our flight from Shanghai to Fuzhou was delayed for 3 hours for "inclement weather" - it was clear in Shanghai. Flight company communicated to progressive, who the flight was booked through, that the flight would be an hour late, so I received a text saying new departure time would be an hour later. This was false. After that hour the only messages we were getting at the airport were "flight is delayed, new departure time will be announced later". We arrived in Fuzhou 3 hours later, at 0300. The bus ride to the hotel provided by the airline is one hour each way, and our connecting flight was 0900, so it was a waste of time to try to get to the hotel. This means we just stayed in the airport all night and boarded our next 15 hour flight with no sleep, no shower and nothing to eat. Customer service for flight would announce turbulence every 3 minutes, even after plane was having turbulence for 10-15 minutes. This freezes entertainment. Etc etc. many other small disorganized things as well."
Voordelen: "Price, Opportunity to check out a city I never would have visited while on extended layovers"
Nadelen: "Lack of English or hard to understand English was a bit difficult to navigate sometimes with the airline and airports (especially I the Xiamen airport) - less of an issue for me because I'm pretty easy going and able to figure out things and plan ahead without many questions to airport or airline staff - but this could be difficult for a large amount of Non-Chinese speaking Americans with a less excited and curious outlook on travel :)"
Nadelen: "As everyone was lining up at the gate to board, a guy came out yelling at everyone is Chinese. I have no idea what he said but it didn't sound good. We sat on the plane for 1.5 hr waiting to depart. An announcement was finally made that there was some kind of issue with air traffic, we ended up almost 2 hrs delayed. The volume on the media device in front of me was not working. The seats were terribly uncomfortable, my butt was hurting after the first hour."
Voordelen: "The aircraft is new! The food is good on the FOC to JFK flight! Instant noodle soup isprovided when you need it!"
Nadelen: "However the food on JFK to FOC flight is terrible. The rice is hard as rock!"
Voordelen: "The flight from JFK to Fuzhou was enjoyable. Plenty of leg room and the entertainment kept me occupied throughout the flight. The food was excellent. They provide 2 full meals, 1 half meal and a snack, where I wasn't hungry at all throughout the 14+ hr flight."
Nadelen: "It was almost impossible to get in touch with an English speaking representative. I tried to call to confirm my booking that I made through kayak.com. When I got in touch, the rep from an overseas office barely spoke English and didn't help at all. Thankfully everything worked out at the airport. Found out that JFK-FOC is only 2 months old. Hopefully they"
